Host an AFS StudentGeneral Information

A host mom and her AFS daughter.

Hosting an AFS exchange student is a wonderfully enriching experience for your entire family. You will learn about a new culture and share what you are most proud of in your culture with your student. And sooner than you'd imagine your family will feel like they have a new AFS son or daugther, brother or sister. Typically the relationships that form last a lifetime.

What you need to know about hosting

  • Length of Stay - AFS students normally arrive in August and depart in June
  • Chose your AFS Student - Over 50 countries particiate in AFS. You can read the student's profile and select the student you think will fit in best with your family.
  • What costs are involved? - Host families are expected to pay for the same general expeneses for their AFS student as they would incur for their own son or daughter. Private schools in Little Rock waive the tuition for AFS students and AFS provides the student's health insurance.
  • Can we host even if we don't have children? - Yes! Whether you are a single parent or your children are grown and moved out of the house, you can host an AFS student.
